Russ believed in reincarnation - or at least he entertained it as a possibility. He at least moved through the world with this kind of cosmic perspective. "Far out" is certainly one way to put it.

I know he really loved the image at the end - he pictured himself going into Laura's attic with her to retrieve some kind of childhood treasure in a box, and it's not there - it was either lost, or never was there. The empty box didn't have a fixed meaning, but was rather a jumping-off point.

Russ and I also chuckled a bit at the lyrics towards the end with "over us" sounding like "over Russ" and "under where" sounding like "underwear." He may have groaned at other people's puns, but he loved making them himself - sorta like people enjoys smelling their own farts.
